Engineering context

DeSimone reported on November 2 that the architectural crowns at LOFTY Brickell and The Standard Residences had been installed, bringing both One Brickell Riverfront towers to nearly 550 feet. The Miami development is scheduled to open in mid-2027; reaching full height does not establish completed-building status. [1]

The concrete towers share an architectural podium but are structurally separated by a full expansion joint. DeSimone says this permits independent wind response and accommodates long-term movement. The design also uses shear walls that can be constructed separately from floor plates, hydraulic self-climbing formwork and post-tensioned slabs. Embedded steel plates help resolve complex shear-wall transfers. [1]

Editorial analysis: A visually connected development need not behave as a single structure. Separating movement between towers makes joint detailing and the treatment of connecting finishes and services important parts of coordination.
