Recognition for the structural team

DeSimone reported on October 28 that Dubai’s Wasl Tower had received first place in the high-rise category of the American Concrete Institute’s 2026 concrete construction awards. Its announcement also lists recognition from Engineering News-Record and the Council on Vertical Urbanism, including awards for buildings at least 300 metres tall and for the Middle East and Africa. [1]

The engineer says its team, led by Ahmed Osman and Aditya Kanodia, initially supported contractor Arabtec through a value-engineering and design review. That role expanded into developing a structural scheme intended to use materials more efficiently and simplify construction. The announcement credits collaboration with Wasl Group, UNS, Werner Sobek and Arabtec. [1]

Editorial analysis: Awards recognise a project’s achievements, but they do not replace detailed evidence about structural performance. For engineers, the useful follow-up is how the revised scheme changed quantities, load paths and construction sequencing.
