The announcement

ZHA’s 28 July announcement presents Z8 Tower as a 140-metre mixed-use project in Beijing’s Central Business District. Offices will share the building with shopping, dining, cultural and leisure spaces, connected to subway and national rail services. The announcement says construction is to begin. [1]

A facade shaped by the climate

The architect describes external vertical fins extending from the mullions of a unitized glass enclosure. Their purpose is summer shading, while the thermal enclosure addresses winter heat loss. Planted terraces and atria connect the western side of the building with the adjacent park. [1]

Engineering perspective

Editorial analysis: the interesting detail is the interface between the glazing, shading fins and occupied terraces. A project review would examine facade anchorage, drainage and thermal continuity together. The announcement supplies design intentions rather than measured operating performance or a completed-building record.
